The ability to reflect and reconsider

Fitness, nutrition, blood vessel health. All fundamental building blocks for a healthy life. But so is a healthy mind. One that is capable of thinking, perceiving, and intuiting. We need all these skills to nourish a healthy mind – one that is curious and observant. As humans, we have an opportunity to look, listen, and feel the world around us, and then THINK about these perceptions. What they mean. Whether they are accurate.

Ever noticed that a colour can seem completely different in dim light? What about how crystal clear a blade of grass looks when we put on glasses or use a magnifying lens? Kind of neat that we live in such a wonderous world where things can be perceived and understood differently. It means we have an opportunity to reflect on what we think we’ve seen, heard, or touched. It means that we can reconsider our initial thoughts. It means we can expand our horizons to consider alternatives.

This is not about physics. Gravity still exists on earth. This is not about the necessities of live. We need water to survive. However, in an increasingly complex and chaotic world, it can be valuable to recognize the unique opportunity of thought and reflection that humans possess. We can use it to bring one another closer, to share resources, to reconsider our responses to this world. It also means we can reshape our movement through life. Make healthier choices. Try new activities. Connect with those around us.

When our brain reflects and reconsiders the world around us, neurons can create new paths and we find ourselves capable of new skills, new perceptions, and new experiences.

Give it some thought, but here are some suggestions:

· Share a fresh meal with someone new and see where the conversation goes

· Look closely at that tree, observe new features about the bark, the leaves, the animals nearby

· When you’re out walking in nature, stop and turn around – how does the world look from that view as opposed to the one in front?

You may be wondering how the Secret Cell factors into this post. Fair enough. This is about tapping into our ancient nervous system and helping things reset. Your Secret Cell will thank you for time taken to observe, reflect, and reconsider!
